How does the chemical assay in an Iron Scrap listing change the payable weight?

The chemical assay determines the actual metal content versus impurities like rust or dirt. Buyers pay for the recoverable metal, not the gross weight of the scrap pile. A higher iron content in the assay means more payable weight per tonne shipped. Always check the assay percentage to calculate the true cost.

What happens if the mineral export licence is missing for Steel Alloy Scrap?

Without the mineral export licence, the cargo cannot legally leave South Africa. Customs will hold the shipment until the seller obtains the necessary authorization. This delay often causes the quoted price to expire and the buyer to lose the reserved inventory. Verify the licence status before confirming the order.

Why does the mill test certificate matter for Manganese exports?

The mill test certificate provides the official record of the chemical assay and physical properties. Destination buyers require this document to prove the material meets their specifications. Without it, the goods may be rejected at the port or sold at a steep discount. Ensure the certificate matches the listing details.

How does ash or silica content in Steel Scraps affect the final price?

High ash or silica content acts as an impurity that reduces the value of the recovered metal. Smelters charge penalties or deduct value for these non-metallic inclusions. The listing should state the maximum allowable silica content to avoid unexpected price adjustments upon arrival. Lower impurities typically command a better rate.

When do quotes for Aluminium Wheel Scrap expire?

Quotes for this scrap usually expire within days because the price tracks a volatile metal index. The market changes rapidly, so a fixed price held for weeks is rare. Sellers often state the validity period in the listing to protect against sudden price swings. Act quickly once you receive a valid quote.

Does density determine if Steel Scraps ships by weight or volume?

Yes, the density and stowage factor decide the charging method for the shipment. Heavy steel scrap often hits the weight limit before the container is full. Lighter scrap might fill the volume first. The seller should specify whether the price is per tonne or per cubic metre based on this factor.

What screening is required for Pet Bottle Scrap entering strict markets?

Strict markets require radiation and scrap-contamination screening to ensure no hazardous materials are present. This screening confirms the scrap is clean and safe for recycling. The seller must provide the screening results with the shipping documents. Failure to pass this screening can lead to shipment rejection or destruction.
