How does the tanning agent in Wet Salted Donkey Hides affect the required safety data sheet format?

The tanning agent determines the chemical residue limits that must be declared on the safety data sheet. If chrome is used, the sheet must detail chromium compounds specifically for the destination's environmental regulations. Vegetable tanning requires a different declaration focused on organic tannins. Mislabeling the agent leads to rejection at customs because the hazard class changes entirely.

What specific impurity profile should I look for in Dorper Sheep Ewe listings?

You should look for the residual salt content and any remaining curing chemicals from the initial preservation. High salt levels can cause corrosion in storage containers and require specific humidity controls. The impurity profile also includes any bacterial load from the wet salting process, which affects the shelf life before further processing. Ask for the assay results to verify these limits.

Why does the choice of packing method for chemical residues impact vessel booking?

The packing method dictates whether the shipment is classified as hazardous waste or raw material. Drummed residues often require a UN number and packing group that many standard vessels do not carry. ISO tanks allow for bulk transport but require specialized cleaning and certification. The availability of these specific vessels at the departure port is the primary constraint, not the price of the packing material.

How does the CAS identity of the tanning agent influence the grade designation?

The CAS identity confirms the exact chemical structure used in the tanning process. This identity determines whether the leather is designated for technical, food, or pharma use. A mismatch between the listed CAS and the actual assay result invalidates the grade. Buyers must verify that the CAS number matches the regulatory requirements of the destination market for that specific grade.

What happens if the dangerous goods declaration is missing for processed leather?

The shipment will be held at the port of loading until the correct declaration is provided. This causes significant delays and incurs demurrage charges. The declaration must match the UN number and packing group derived from the chemical residues in the leather. Without it, the carrier cannot legally accept the booking for transport.

How does the assay result for residual chrome affect the usability of the leather?

The assay result shows the exact amount of chrome remaining in the hide. High residual chrome makes the leather unsuitable for food contact or certain textile applications. It also increases the hazard classification, affecting transport costs. Buyers must ensure the assay limits align with their downstream processing capabilities and regulatory constraints.

What distinguishes a Cattle Gallstones listing from a standard leather product order?

Cattle Gallstones are a byproduct used in traditional medicine, not a leather material. They have completely different grading standards, packaging requirements, and regulatory classifications. Including them in a leather search is a filing error. Buyers should ignore such listings as they do not pertain to the supply chain for Raw & Processed Leather.
