Question 1

How do I distinguish Munifi Dates from Medjool Dates in listings?

Accepted Answer

Munifi and Medjool represent distinct varieties with different size profiles, moisture contents, and sugar levels. Munifi dates are typically smaller and drier, often used for flour or general consumption, while Medjool dates are larger, softer, and graded by size for premium retail. Sellers may list them simply as Dates, so you must request the specific variety name and the size grading scale used by the producer to ensure the quote matches your target market.

Question 2

What packing difference separates Defatted Soy Flour from whole beans?

Accepted Answer

Defatted Soy Flour requires airtight, moisture-proof packaging to prevent clumping and oxidation, often in multi-wall paper bags or vacuum-sealed pallets. Whole soy beans are typically shipped in bulk bags or flexitanks. The handling requirements differ significantly, as flour needs protection from humidity during transit, whereas whole beans are more resilient but still require clean, dry storage conditions to prevent mold growth.

Question 3

Which branch handles halal certified meat exports from Saudi Arabia?

Accepted Answer

Livestock & Animal Products is the correct branch for meat exports, as it covers the specific halal slaughter and certification requirements mandated for Saudi Arabian meat. Processed Food may contain meat items, but the primary export channel for raw or semi-processed halal meat is under the Livestock & Animal Products category. You must verify that the seller holds the relevant halal certification recognized by your destination country.

Question 4

Why do quotes for Seafood Supplies vary so much from this origin?

Accepted Answer

Seafood exports from Saudi Arabia often involve frozen fish shipped from specific ports like Jeddah or Dammam, with prices fluctuating based on the catch method and freezing process. Fresh seafood is less common due to logistics, so most quotes are for frozen products. The variation arises from whether the seller includes the cost of ice glazing, vacuum packaging, or just bulk frozen blocks.

Question 5

What documentation is specific to exporting tobacco from Saudi Arabia?

Accepted Answer

Exporting tobacco and related products requires specific excise tax documentation and health safety certificates that differ from general food items. Saudi Arabia imposes strict controls on tobacco production and export, so sellers must provide proof of compliance with local excise laws. Buyers should request the specific health clearance documents issued by the relevant Saudi authorities to ensure smooth customs clearance in the destination country.

Question 6

How does the thin inventory in Food & Beverages affect sample requests?

Accepted Answer

With limited listings in this category, sellers may not hold samples for every product type, especially for specialized items like defatted soy flour or specific date varieties. Buyers should explicitly ask if samples are available before placing a large order, as lead times for sample generation can be longer than for standard bulk goods. This is particularly true for niche sub-categories where production runs are smaller.

Question 7

What field on a row is worth negotiating for dates?

Accepted Answer

The moisture content and size grading are the most critical fields to negotiate for dates, as these directly impact shelf life and retail appeal. Sellers may list dates broadly, so you must specify the exact moisture percentage and size range (e.g., small, medium, large) to ensure the quote reflects the quality you need. Negotiating on these specs prevents receiving goods that do not meet your processing or retail standards.
