Question 1

How do I distinguish between food grade and industrial grade sunflower oil in listings?

Accepted Answer

Sunflower oil listings from Portugal will specify the refinement level and free fatty acid content. Food grade oil requires lower acidity and specific sensory profiles suitable for consumption, while industrial grade may have higher acidity for soap or biodiesel production. Check the specification sheet for the maximum percentage of free fatty acids and any residual solvent limits. This distinction is critical because the handling and storage requirements differ significantly between the two grades.

Question 2

What packing difference exists between black granite blocks and finished slabs?

Accepted Answer

Black granite shipped as blocks is typically bundled in wooden crates or on steel frames to protect the raw edges. Finished slabs are packed with foam or cardboard interleaving and secured in reinforced wooden cases to prevent surface scratching. The packing method affects the stackability in containers and the risk of chipping during transit. Buyers should verify the packing standard in the listing details to ensure the goods arrive without cosmetic damage that could affect usability.

Question 3

Why does the moisture content specification matter for soya grain from Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Soya grain from Portugal must meet specific moisture limits to prevent mold growth and heating during storage and shipping. High moisture content can lead to quality degradation and potential rejection at the destination port due to sanitary regulations. The listing should state the maximum allowable moisture percentage, which is a key quality parameter for buyers. Exceeding this limit can result in significant financial loss due to spoilage or penalties from the receiving facility.

Question 4

What documentation is unique to cream limestone exports from Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Cream limestone exports from Portugal often require a certificate of origin and a declaration of conformity for specific industrial uses. The documentation must confirm the mineral composition and absence of harmful contaminants as per destination market standards. Buyers should request a recent batch analysis report to verify the calcium carbonate content and whiteness index. These documents are essential for customs clearance and quality acceptance at the destination.

Question 5

How does the freezing process affect chicken meat export specifications?

Accepted Answer

Frozen chicken meat from Portugal must maintain a continuous cold chain from processing to the port of shipment. The listing should specify the freezing method, such as quick freezing or blast freezing, which impacts meat texture and juice retention. Buyers need to verify the packaging integrity to ensure no thaw-refreeze cycles have occurred during transit. Proper temperature control is critical to maintain food safety standards and prevent bacterial growth in the consignment.

Question 6

What field on a listing indicates the specific harvest year for agricultural products?

Accepted Answer

For agricultural products like soya grain or sunflower oil, the harvest year is a critical quality indicator. Listings should explicitly state the harvest year to ensure the product's freshness and nutrient profile match buyer expectations. Older stock may have reduced oil content or altered chemical properties. Buyers should look for this detail in the product description or contact the seller to confirm the vintage before placing an order.

Question 7

Which specification determines the suitability of black granite for outdoor cladding?

Accepted Answer

The water absorption rate and frost resistance of black granite determine its suitability for outdoor cladding applications. Listings should provide these technical values, as higher absorption can lead to cracking in freezing conditions. Buyers must verify that the stone meets the specific durability standards required for the intended environment. Ignoring these specs can result in premature failure of the installed material and costly replacements.
