How do you distinguish between a Cross listing and Mobile Phone Motherboard Scrap in this category?

These items belong to different branches of the Minerals & metals tree. A Cross is typically a fabricated metal product or structural component found in Metal & Metal Products. Mobile Phone Motherboard Scrap is electronic waste containing precious metals, usually filed under Ores and Minerals or specific scrap categories. The inspection for the former focuses on dimensions and material integrity, while the latter requires chemical analysis to determine the recovery value of contained metals. Confusing these leads to completely different logistics and regulatory requirements.

What specification separates a raw ore concentrate from a fabricated metal product?

Raw ore concentrates are defined by their chemical composition and marketable content percentage, which requires assay data to verify. Fabricated metal products are defined by physical properties such as tensile strength, hardness, or specific alloy grades. An ore listing needs to specify the element concentration and impurity levels. A metal product listing needs to specify the temper, weave, or dimensional tolerance. These are two separate valuation models that cannot be compared directly.

Why is packing for Mobile Phone Motherboard Scrap different from a Cross?

Mobile Phone Motherboard Scrap is often packed in bales or loose containers to facilitate sorting and chemical processing, with risks of contamination or loss of small components. A Cross, being a fabricated item, is packed to prevent physical damage, bending, or surface scratching during transit. The handling requirements for scrap focus on volume and content retention, while fabricated metals focus on preserving surface quality and geometric integrity. Misidentifying the packing type can lead to damage or incorrect freight calculations.

What does the buyer need to check before accepting a quote for an ore?

The buyer must verify the assay report that details the exact chemical composition and marketable content of the ore. Without this data, the price per tonne is arbitrary and likely inaccurate. The quote should also specify the moisture content and any impurities that might affect processing. For ores, the value is entirely driven by the concentration of the target element. A generic description without assay data is insufficient for making a purchasing decision.

How does the inspection process differ between Ores and Minerals and Metal & Metal Products?

Inspection for Ores and Minerals focuses on chemical sampling and assay verification to confirm the grade and purity of the material. Inspection for Metal & Metal Products focuses on physical measurements, surface quality checks, and mechanical testing to ensure the item meets dimensional and performance standards. The tools and experts required for these inspections are different. Using an inspector who specializes in one branch may miss critical defects in the other.

What goes wrong if you source a fabricated metal under the Ores and Minerals branch?

You will likely receive a quote based on chemical composition rather than physical dimensions or alloy grade. The seller may not have the necessary certifications for fabricated goods, such as mill test reports or temper certificates. The logistics planning will be incorrect because the packing and handling requirements for raw ore differ significantly from finished metal products. This mismatch leads to disputes over quality and delivery specifications.

Why is it hard to compare two listings for Mobile Phone Motherboard Scrap?

These listings often lack specific data on the types of metals contained, their concentrations, and the physical state of the scrap. One listing might describe baled boards with high copper content, while another might describe loose components with lower recovery rates. Without detailed chemical analysis or physical description, the price per tonne is not comparable. Buyers must ask for detailed composition breakdowns to evaluate the true value of the scrap.
