Question 1

How does the inspection requirement for Palm Sludge Oil differ from Crude Palm Oil?

Accepted Answer

Palm Sludge Oil requires analysis of its moisture and solid content because it is a waste derivative, whereas Crude Palm Oil is graded by its free fatty acid level and color. A buyer must request the specific test report relevant to the product type, as the standard parameters for one do not apply to the other. Confusing these leads to rejected shipments at the destination port due to incorrect quality declarations.

Question 2

What documentation is unique for exporting Petroleum, Oil & Related Products from Malaysia?

Accepted Answer

Shipments of Petroleum, Oil & Related Products require a Certificate of Quality issued by an independent surveyor at the loading port. This document must match the specifications in the sales contract, including viscosity, sulfur content, and density. Without this specific certificate, the buyer cannot clear customs or sell the fuel to end users in many jurisdictions.

Question 3

Why do thin listings in Chemicals & Allied Products often fail to quote?

Accepted Answer

Thin listings in Chemicals & Allied Products frequently omit the UN number and the packing group classification. Without these details, a seller cannot calculate freight costs or determine if the goods are legal to ship to your port. You must ask for the full safety data sheet and the exact packing specification before any price can be generated.

Question 4

What packing difference separates Raw & Processed Leather from general Industrial Supplies?

Accepted Answer

Raw & Processed Leather requires breathable packaging to prevent mold during transit, often using jute bags or wooden crates with ventilation. General Industrial Supplies might use sealed plastic or cardboard. If you source leather under the wrong branch, you risk receiving goods that have degraded due to improper moisture control during the ocean voyage.

Question 5

What is the costliest wrong assumption when buying Marine Equipment & Machinery?

Accepted Answer

The costliest wrong assumption is that standard industrial warranty applies to Marine Equipment & Machinery. These items often require marine-grade certification and specific corrosion resistance standards. A buyer must verify that the equipment meets the classification society requirements of the flag state where the vessel will be registered, or the part will be rejected upon installation.

Question 6

How do I distinguish a sample from the shipped lot for Palm Sludge Oil?

Accepted Answer

Palm Sludge Oil is a semi-solid waste product that can vary significantly in consistency and impurity levels between batches. A sample taken from the top of a tank may not represent the settled solids at the bottom. Always request a composite sample from multiple points in the storage tank to ensure the shipped lot matches the quality agreed upon.

Question 7

What specification is missing from a thin Packaging Products listing?

Accepted Answer

A thin Packaging Products listing often fails to state the material grade, such as the density of the cardboard or the resin type for plastic. It may also omit the weight capacity or the specific standard it complies with, such as ISTA for transit durability. Without these details, the packaging may fail during handling, leading to product damage at the destination.
