How does chemical assay affect the payable price for Metal & Metal Products?

The chemical assay defines the elemental composition, which directly determines the base value of the lot. A higher concentration of valuable alloys increases the payable price, while impurities trigger penalties. Buyers must verify the assay results against their processing tolerances before accepting a quote, as deviations alter the material's utility in their specific application.

What distinguishes two listings that both claim to be scrap from Latvia?

The distinction lies in the particle or lump size distribution and the ash or silica content. One listing may offer clean, uniformly sized chunks suitable for direct melting, while another contains fine powders or high impurity loads that require additional processing. These physical differences dictate the handling costs and the final recovery rate for the buyer.

Why is a mineral export licence critical for scrap shipments from Latvia?

A mineral export licence is mandatory for scrap variants leaving Latvia to ensure compliance with environmental and resource management regulations. Without this document, customs authorities will detain the shipment at the port of origin. Buyers must confirm the seller possesses this licence before payment, as its absence makes the transaction illegal and the goods unrecoverable.

How does radiation screening impact the clearance of Metal & Metal Products?

Destination authorities screen all Metal & Metal Products for radiation and scrap contamination to prevent the entry of hazardous materials. If a shipment fails this screening, it faces immediate rejection, destruction, or costly decontamination procedures. Buyers should request evidence of prior screening results to ensure the lot meets the strict safety standards of the importing country.

When does a quote for Metal & Metal Products become invalid?

Quotes become invalid almost immediately because prices ride a live index that updates continuously during trading hours. Sellers typically hold open offers for only a few days, reflecting the rapid volatility of base metal markets. A delay in securing the order or finalizing logistics often results in the original price expiring, requiring a new quotation.

How do you determine if you pay for weight or volume for these products?

The stowage factor and density decide whether you pay for weight or volume when loading the goods. Dense materials like lead powder or compacted scrap fill the container's weight capacity before reaching its volume limit. Lighter manufactured items may fill the physical space first, making volumetric weight the basis for freight charges. Accurate density data prevents costly freight miscalculations.

What role does the mill test certificate play for manufactured Metal & Metal Products?

The mill test certificate provides the definitive proof of the material's composition and mechanical properties for manufactured items. It verifies that the alloy or standard designation matches the listing claims, ensuring the product meets engineering specifications. Buyers rely on this document to validate quality and avoid receiving substandard materials that could fail in their final assembly or construction projects.
