Does the moisture percentage in copper ore change the final invoice amount?

Yes. The chemical assay sets the metal value, but the moisture content reduces the payable dry weight. Sellers often quote based on a standard moisture threshold, usually around eight percent. If the actual shipment is wetter, the buyer pays for less metal per tonne. Always check the moisture clause in the contract to understand the deduction mechanism.

What is the role of the mill test certificate for bauxite shipments?

The mill test certificate provides the independent chemical analysis of the bauxite lot. It confirms the alumina content and the silica ratio, which are critical for smelting efficiency. Without this document, the buyer cannot verify if the material meets the required grade specifications. It serves as the primary evidence of quality during the handover process.

How does scrap contamination affect lead ore clearance?

Scrap contamination triggers rejection at the radiation screening checkpoint. Authorities look for non-ore materials that might indicate mixed waste or unsafe elements. Even a small percentage of scrap can cause the entire container or break-bulk load to be held. Sellers must ensure the material is pure ore to avoid costly delays and potential return shipments.

Why do quotes for nickel ore expire so quickly?

Nickel prices track a volatile global index that changes daily. A quote issued on Monday may be invalid by Wednesday if the index moves significantly. Sellers hold prices open for only a few days to manage their risk. Buyers must confirm the order quickly to secure the quoted rate before the market shifts again.

When is break-bulk preferred over container shipping for copper concentrate?

Break-bulk is preferred when the cargo density exceeds the weight limit of standard containers. Copper concentrate is heavy, so filling a container by weight often leaves significant empty space. Ships use break-bulk vessels to carry the full tonnage efficiently. This method avoids paying for unused volume, which is the primary cost driver in containerized mineral trade.

What documentation proves the mineral export licence for Kenyan ores?

The mineral export licence is issued by the national mining authority before loading. It authorizes the specific quantity and type of ore to leave the country. Buyers should request a copy of this licence to verify that the seller has the legal right to export the goods. Without it, customs will not release the cargo for international shipment.

How does the particle size of mineral powder impact handling costs?

Fine mineral powder requires special handling to prevent dusting and loss during transit. It often needs bagging or pneumatic discharge equipment at the destination port. If the particle size is too fine for standard grabs, additional fees apply for specialized unloading gear. Buyers must specify the required mesh size to ensure the destination port can handle the material.
