How does the chemical assay in a Copper Concentrate listing affect the payable weight?

The chemical assay determines the percentage of payable metal contained within the concentrate. Buyers pay for the net weight of the metal after deducting for moisture and impurities like silica. A higher grade reduces the refining charges, while a lower grade increases them, directly impacting the final invoice amount.

What specific screening does radiation testing perform for scrap metal entering the destination?

Radiation screening checks for any radioactive contamination that may have entered the scrap stream during its previous life cycle. This test ensures the material meets safety standards for melting and reprocessing. A failed screening result typically leads to the rejection of the entire shipment or costly decontamination procedures.

Why is the particle size distribution critical for mobile phone scrap processing?

Particle size distribution determines how efficiently the scrap can be shredded and separated into valuable metals. Uniform sizing ensures consistent flow through sorting machinery and improves the recovery rate of gold and copper. Irregular sizes can cause blockages or reduce the purity of the final recovered metals.

How does the stowage factor of bronze scrap influence container utilization?

The stowage factor indicates the space occupied by a unit of weight. Dense bronze scrap may reach the weight limit of a container before the volume is full. This affects how many tonnes can be shipped per container, directly influencing the landed cost per unit compared to lighter materials.

What role does the mill test certificate play in verifying used rail scrap?

The mill test certificate provides the original chemical and mechanical properties of the steel used in the rails. It confirms the grade and strength, which is essential for buyers who need specific material characteristics for their recycling or construction projects. It serves as proof of the material's structural integrity.

How does moisture content impact the net weight calculation for metal concentrates?

Moisture adds weight that does not contain any payable metal. Buyers typically deduct the weight of moisture from the gross weight to determine the dry metric tonne. High moisture content reduces the payable weight and may incur additional drying costs at the destination, affecting the overall value of the lot.

Why must the index date be stated in an enquiry for Gold exports?

Gold prices fluctuate constantly based on global market conditions. The index date anchors the price to a specific moment in time, ensuring both parties agree on the base rate. Without a clear index date, the final price remains undefined until the moment of transaction, introducing significant financial risk.
