How does the chemical assay in a Nickel listing change the payable weight?

The chemical assay determines the purity level of the Nickel. If the assay is below the agreed percentage, the buyer pays a penalty or the weight is adjusted. This ensures you only pay for the actual metal content, not the impurities mixed in with the lot.

Why does the mill test certificate matter for Iron and steel shipments?

The mill test certificate confirms the alloy designation and mechanical properties of the steel. Without it, you cannot verify that the material meets the standard designation required by your end-use. It is the primary document for quality acceptance at the destination port.

What happens if the scrap-contamination screening fails for Copper imports?

If the lot fails radiation or scrap-contamination screening, the destination authorities will reject the entry. This leads to costly demurrage fees or forced repatriation. You must ensure the seller provides pre-shipment inspection reports to prove the lot is free of prohibited contaminants.

How does density affect whether you use break-bulk or container shipping?

High density materials like Copper or dense Iron and steel often fill a container by weight before it reaches its volume limit. This makes container shipping efficient. Lower density scrap may fill the volume first, making break-bulk or larger vessels more cost-effective for the tonnage.

Why does a quote for Metal & Metal Products expire so quickly?

Prices for these commodities are tied to real-time market indices. A quote is typically held open for only a few days to lock in that rate. If the market moves significantly during that window, the seller cannot honor the original price due to margin risk.

What role does the mineral export licence play in Italy shipments?

The mineral export licence authorizes the seller to ship the specific lot from Italy. It must match the exact product description and quantity in the commercial invoice. Customs at the destination will check this licence to verify the legality of the export and the origin of the goods.

How does ash content influence the final invoice amount for scrap?

Ash content is an impurity that reduces the usable metal yield. Sellers often deduct the weight of ash from the gross weight before calculating the invoice. You must check the ash percentage in the listing to understand the true net weight you are paying for.
