Question 1

How does mesh or particle size affect the suitability of Coffee Powder for industrial baking versus retail packaging?

Accepted Answer

Mesh or particle size determines the flow rate and dissolution speed of the product. Industrial bakers require a finer mesh for consistent mixing in high-speed production lines, while retail packaging often uses a coarser grind for perceived quality and ease of brewing. A listing that fails to specify the exact mesh count forces you to request a sample, which delays the order. The particle size also impacts how the product settles in cartons, affecting the carton cube and subsequent freight costs.

Question 2

What specific details must appear in the allergen and ingredient labelling for the destination language to ensure clearance?

Accepted Answer

The labelling must explicitly list all allergens present in the facility, even in trace amounts, using the standard terminology required by the destination country. Ingredient declarations must follow the descending order of weight and include any additives used in the processing of the Processed Food. Incorrect or missing labelling in the destination language is the most common reason for shipment rejection. Buyers should verify that the label text matches the exact legal definitions used in their local market.

Question 3

Why does the production date matter more than the order date for Robusta Coffee shelf life calculations?

Accepted Answer

Shelf life starts ticking from the moment of production, not from when you place an order. If the production date is six months old, the remaining shelf life may be insufficient for long transit routes or slow-moving distribution channels. Buyers must calculate the remaining usable life by subtracting the transit time and expected warehouse storage from the total shelf life stated on the listing. Older production dates often come with price discounts to offset the reduced sales window.

Question 4

How does carton cube influence the landed cost of Ground Coffee compared to weight-based calculations?

Accepted Answer

Freight charges are often based on volumetric weight, which is derived from the carton cube rather than the actual weight of the product. If the case count per layer or palletisation strategy is inefficient, the carton cube increases, leading to higher freight costs even if the product weight remains the same. Buyers should request the exact carton dimensions and pallet configuration to calculate the true landed cost. Optimizing the packing density can significantly reduce the freight component of the total cost.

Question 5

What role does facility registration play in the acceptance of Processed Food from Italy at destination borders?

Accepted Answer

Destination authorities often require proof that the manufacturing facility is registered with the relevant food safety agency in Italy. This registration number must appear on the health certificate and often on the product label itself. Without a valid facility registration, customs officials may detain the shipment for further inspection or reject it outright. Buyers should verify the facility registration status before confirming an order to avoid unexpected delays and storage fees at the port.

Question 6

How do additive and blend declarations impact the regulatory acceptance of processed blends in the destination market?

Accepted Answer

Additive and blend declarations must comply with the specific allowable lists and maximum limits of the destination country. Some additives permitted in Italy may be prohibited or restricted in other markets, leading to immediate rejection of the shipment. Buyers must cross-reference the ingredient list with their local food safety regulations before placing an order. Any discrepancy between the declared ingredients and local laws can result in the destruction of the goods.

Question 7

What is the risk of using ambient transport for temperature-sensitive Processed Food items like certain coffee products?

Accepted Answer

Ambient transport exposes temperature-sensitive products to fluctuations that can degrade quality, cause clumping, or promote microbial growth. If the destination market requires temperature-controlled logistics, using ambient transport can lead to quality disputes and rejection upon arrival. Buyers must specify the required temperature range in the enquiry and verify that the seller can provide temperature-controlled shipping. Failure to match the transport method to the product's stability requirements is a common source of post-arrival losses.
