Question 1

How do I distinguish between raw ore listings and processed metal scraps?

Accepted Answer

Raw ore listings describe geological material requiring smelting or chemical extraction. Processed metal scraps, such as Plastic ABS Scrap or ELMO Scrap, are manufactured waste or byproducts ready for recycling or repurposing. Check the description for terms like assay, grade, or chemical composition for ores. Look for physical condition, shape, or material type for scraps. Confusing these branches leads to incompatible sourcing strategies and incorrect logistics planning.

Question 2

What specification is missing from a Plastic ABS Scrap listing?

Accepted Answer

A listing for Plastic ABS Scrap rarely states the melt flow index or the percentage of contaminants. It also omits the specific polymer grade and any previous usage history. You must ask for the technical data sheet to verify if the material meets your injection molding requirements. Without this, the scrap may be unsuitable for high-quality manufacturing processes.

Question 3

Why does sourcing PP scrap Bale differ from sourcing raw minerals?

Accepted Answer

PP scrap Bale involves handling bulky, compressed plastic waste that requires specific storage and transport conditions. Raw minerals are dense geological materials often shipped in bulk containers or break-bulk vessels. The inspection criteria differ entirely: plastics need moisture and contamination checks, while minerals require chemical purity assays. Treating them as the same category results in logistical failures and quality disputes.

Question 4

What export documentation is required for ELMO Scrap leaving Ireland?

Accepted Answer

Exporting ELMO Scrap typically requires a commercial invoice, packing list, and an export declaration. Depending on the material composition, you may also need a waste shipment notice if it crosses certain borders. Confirm with the seller which specific regulatory forms apply to electric motor scrap. Missing paperwork can delay clearance and increase storage costs at the destination port.

Question 5

How does the thin inventory in Ireland affect quote validity?

Accepted Answer

Thin inventory means listings may not represent available stock but rather seller intentions. Quotes based on these listings can expire quickly as material moves. Always request proof of availability and current stock location before finalizing terms. Assume the price is indicative until you receive a confirmed proforma invoice with specific lot details.

Question 6

What costliest assumption do buyers make about Mineral & metal products?

Accepted Answer

Buyers often assume that a generic title implies standard quality or availability. This leads to wasted time negotiating for material that does not exist or does not meet specs. Always verify the exact grade, condition, and location of the material before committing. The costliest mistake is paying for a specification that was never confirmed in writing.

Question 7

What should I verify about the condition of PP scrap Bale?

Accepted Answer

Verify the bale density, compression strength, and presence of non-plastic contaminants. Ask for photos showing the cut surface of the bale to assess internal quality. Request a sample for testing if the volume justifies it. Poorly baled material can cause jams in recycling machinery, leading to significant operational downtime and additional handling costs.
