Question 1

How do I tell if a listing belongs to Metal & Metal Products or Ores and Minerals?

Accepted Answer

Look at the physical form and intended use. Metal & Metal Products includes fabricated items like pipes, sheets, or machinery parts that have been processed into a usable shape. Ores and Minerals are raw, unrefined materials extracted from the earth, such as nickel ore or bauxite. If the item needs further smelting or refining before it becomes a material, it belongs in the ores branch. If it is ready for manufacturing or construction, it is a metal product.

Question 2

What happens if I source a raw ore from the Metal & Metal Products branch?

Accepted Answer

You will likely receive quotes for processed scrap or fabricated items instead of raw earth materials. The inspection requirements for fabricated goods, such as dimensional checks, do not apply to raw ores. Ores require assay certificates to determine elemental composition and purity. Sourcing from the wrong branch means the seller cannot provide the necessary assay data, and the quote will be irrelevant for your processing needs.

Question 3

What is particular about buying Ores and Minerals from Indonesia?

Accepted Answer

Indonesia is a major source of nickel and bauxite, but these materials often face specific export restrictions or levy requirements. The paperwork chain usually involves a customs declaration that references the specific mineral grade and destination. Buyers must ensure the seller holds the necessary export permits for the specific mineral type, as regulations change frequently. This adds a layer of compliance verification not present in standard metal product trades.

Question 4

How do the listings from Indonesia differ in depth between the two branches?

Accepted Answer

Metal & Metal Products listings often include mill certificates or technical datasheets detailing tensile strength or alloy composition. Ores and Minerals listings are frequently thinner on data, relying on seller-provided assay estimates rather than lab-certified results. A thin listing for an ore may omit critical impurity levels that affect smelting efficiency. Buyers should assume missing data is not a standard offering and must request it explicitly.

Question 5

What is the key difference in packing for Ores versus Metal & Metal Products?

Accepted Answer

Ores are typically shipped in bulk vessels using grab cranes, with no individual unit packing. Metal & Metal Products are often unitized, packed in bundles, crates, or on pallets to prevent damage during handling. The logistics cost calculation differs entirely because bulk ore uses a per-tonne vessel charter rate, while fabricated metals may require container loading or break-bulk stowage plans. Confusing these leads to massive freight estimation errors.

Question 6

What field on a row is the one worth arguing about for ores?

Accepted Answer

The moisture content and impurity levels are the most critical fields to negotiate for ores. High moisture adds dead weight to the shipment, increasing freight costs without adding value. Impurities like silica or sulfur can incur penalties at the destination smelter. Sellers may list a grade based on theoretical potential rather than the actual delivered composition. Always verify the basis of the grade against the final inspection report.

Question 7

What mistake does someone make when buying Desiccated Coconut Fine Grade Powder from this page?

Accepted Answer

This product is an agricultural food item, not a mineral or metal. It belongs in the Food & Agriculture category, not Minerals & metals. Sourcing it here results in sellers who may not have the necessary food safety certifications or export licenses for consumables. The packing standards for food-grade powder differ significantly from industrial bulk materials. Buyers should navigate to the correct agricultural sub-category to find qualified suppliers with proper hygiene controls.
