How does the chemical assay of Copper Ingots differ from Copper in terms of buyer verification?

Copper Ingots are graded by their copper content percentage, usually requiring a mill test certificate to prove purity. Buyers must compare the assay in the certificate against the listing specifications to ensure the metal meets their casting requirements. Copper scrap, by contrast, is valued by its physical form and contamination levels, where the assay serves as a secondary check rather than the primary price driver. Always request the assay report before agreeing to a price based on nominal purity.

What specific screening prevents PCB Scrap from clearing at the destination port?

Radiation and scrap-contamination screening are the primary barriers for PCB Scrap entering strict markets. Buyers must ensure the seller provides proof that the scrap has been tested for radioactive materials and hazardous substances like lead or brominated flame retardants. Without passing this screening, customs will reject the shipment regardless of the metal content. The mill test certificate for PCB Scrap often includes these contamination results.

Why does the mineral export licence matter for Gold Dust shipments from Germany?

The mineral export licence from Germany authorizes the legal removal of Gold Dust from the country. Without this specific document, the shipment cannot legally leave the German jurisdiction, causing delays or seizure. The licence is tied to the specific metal type and the quantity being exported. Buyers should verify that the seller holds a valid licence for the exact grade and volume they intend to purchase.

How does the stowage factor of Automobile Scrap affect container selection?

The stowage factor of Automobile Scrap determines whether the container fills by weight or volume. Dense metal parts may hit the weight limit before the container is full, while bulky bodies may fill the space before reaching the weight limit. Break-bulk shipping is often used for larger scrap pieces that do not fit standard containers. Understanding this factor helps buyers estimate the true landed cost, including freight and handling fees.

What role does the particle size distribution play in Metal Powder trading?

Particle size distribution defines the flowability and density of Metal Powder, which affects both the price and the application. Finer powders often command a premium due to the additional processing required to achieve uniform size. Buyers must specify the required distribution range to ensure the powder meets their manufacturing needs. The listing should state the typical particle size range, but verification via lab testing is essential for critical applications.

How does moisture content impact the payable weight for Metal & Metal Products?

Moisture content reduces the payable weight of Metal & Metal Products because buyers pay for the dry metal, not the water. Sellers may quote a price based on wet weight, but the final invoice is adjusted after drying or moisture analysis. High moisture can also lead to corrosion during transit, damaging the product. Always clarify whether the quoted price is for dry weight or wet weight to avoid unexpected deductions.

What happens if the alloy designation on the mill test certificate does not match the listing?

A mismatch between the alloy designation on the mill test certificate and the listing can lead to rejection by the buyer. The alloy designation confirms the specific elemental composition, which is critical for the metal's mechanical properties. If the certificate shows a different alloy, the material may not meet the buyer's engineering requirements. Buyers should request a certificate that explicitly matches the listing's alloy grade before shipping.
