Question 1

How do I distinguish between Bar Products and Processed Food listings?

Accepted Answer

Bar Products typically refer to chocolate or confectionery bars with specific cocoa butter content and tempering requirements. Processed Food covers a wider array of prepared items like canned goods or frozen meals with different preservation methods. Check the product title and description for keywords like cocoa, dairy, or freezing temperature. If the listing mentions tempering or cocoa mass, it belongs in Bar Products. Otherwise, it likely falls under general Processed Food. This distinction matters for storage temperature and shelf-life expectations.

Question 2

What goes wrong when sourcing Seafood Supplies from the wrong branch?

Accepted Answer

Buyers often find listings for dried or canned seafood when they need fresh or frozen fillets. Seafood Supplies requires specific cold chain logistics and humidity control. If you search in the wrong branch, you may receive quotes for shelf-stable products that do not meet your freshness criteria. Always verify the state of the seafood. Fresh fish needs ice or liquid nitrogen, while dried fish requires low humidity. Misalignment here leads to spoilage or rejection at destination.

Question 3

What specification should I check for palm sugar before ordering?

Accepted Answer

Moisture content is the critical factor for palm sugar. High moisture leads to clumping and microbial growth during transit. Ask the seller for the specific moisture percentage and granule size. Organic Coconut Palm Sugar often has stricter limits on ash content and invert sugar. Verify if the seller provides a recent laboratory analysis. Without this data, the sugar may cake in your container, causing significant handling issues and potential loss of product quality.

Question 4

Which listing field reveals the true shelf life of canned goods?

Accepted Answer

Look for the expiration date or best-before period stated in the listing details. Some sellers list production date, which requires you to calculate remaining shelf life based on standard durations. Canned goods vary widely; some last two years, others only six months. Do not assume a standard duration. Confirm the exact date format and whether it refers to unopened or opened product. This field determines your inventory turnover rate and storage requirements.

Question 5

Why is alcohol content a key filter in Alcoholic Beverages?

Accepted Answer

Alcoholic Beverages span from low ABV ciders to high-proof spirits. Each has different import duties, labeling laws, and age restrictions. A listing for beer requires different packaging than one for whiskey. Check the alcohol by volume percentage to ensure compliance with your destination regulations. This figure also affects shipping classification and insurance costs. Misidentifying the strength can lead to customs delays or seizure of the shipment.

Question 6

How does tobacco grading differ from general food standards?

Accepted Answer

Tobacco & Related Products use specific curing methods and leaf grades that do not apply to edible items. Grading depends on leaf position, color, and texture. These factors influence nicotine content and burn rate. General food standards like hygiene certificates are necessary but insufficient. You must verify the curing type and grade classification. Sellers often omit these details, so ask directly. Incorrect grade selection results in product that does not meet your manufacturing or retail specifications.

Question 7

What packing detail signals risk for sunflower oil shipments?

Accepted Answer

Sunflower Oil requires food-grade plastic drums or flexitanks to prevent contamination. Check if the listing specifies the container type and liner material. Poor quality liners can leach chemicals into the oil. Also, verify if the oil is refined or unrefined, as this affects stability. Unrefined oil has a shorter shelf life and requires darker packaging. Ensure the seller confirms the packaging integrity and suitability for long-haul transport to avoid rancidity or leakage.
