Question 1

How do I distinguish a Cosmetics Products listing from a Gems & Jewellery listing when the title mentions both?

Accepted Answer

Ignore the combined title and look at the physical description. If the item is a liquid, cream, or oil like Cold pressed Sesame oil, it belongs in Cosmetics Products. If it is a stone, mineral, or set piece like an Ethiopia Welo Opal, it belongs in Gems & Jewellery. The inspection requirements for a chemical extract differ completely from those for a gemstone, so you must verify the material type before proceeding.

Question 2

What specification matters most for an Ethiopia Welo Opal compared to a topical oil?

Accepted Answer

For an Ethiopia Welo Opal, the critical specification is the play of color and the clarity grade, which are visual and structural properties. For a topical oil, the critical specification is the chemical composition, such as the fatty acid profile or moisture content. These two products require entirely different testing methods and quality standards, so a general quality claim is meaningless for both.

Question 3

Why do listings for Hair Nourisher & Skin Care often confuse buyers looking for gems?

Accepted Answer

Sellers sometimes file cosmetic products under broad category headers to increase visibility, even if the category is technically for apparel or accessories. A buyer looking for Welo Opal will find irrelevant cosmetic listings if they do not filter by the correct sub-branch. Always verify the physical nature of the item in the description rather than relying on the category header or a mixed title.

Question 4

What export documentation is specific to shipping raw gems from Ethiopia?

Accepted Answer

Shipping raw gems from Ethiopia requires specific export permits that differ from the documentation needed for agricultural or cosmetic products. The paperwork chain for a mineral export involves geological surveys and customs declarations that are unique to the mineral trade. A buyer must confirm that the seller holds the correct export clearance for the specific material before agreeing to any terms.

Question 5

How does the packing requirement differ between a gemstone and a cosmetic oil?

Accepted Answer

A gemstone like an Ethiopia Welo Opal requires secure, shock-absorbent packaging to prevent physical damage during transit, often with individual boxing. A cosmetic oil like Cold pressed Sesame oil requires sealed, leak-proof containers that protect the chemical integrity of the liquid. The packing standards are dictated by the physical state of the goods, not the category label.

Question 6

What goes wrong if I source a cosmetic product under the Gems & Jewellery branch?

Accepted Answer

If you source a cosmetic product under the Gems & Jewellery branch, you will likely receive a quote for a mineral or stone. The seller will assume you want a gemstone and may not even stock the cosmetic item. This misalignment leads to wasted time and incorrect pricing, as the two trades have completely different cost structures and supply chains.

Question 7

Why is the listing depth for this category considered thin?

Accepted Answer

The inventory is thin because the category combines two distinct trades that rarely overlap in a single supply chain. Sellers of cosmetics rarely sell gems, and vice versa, so the pool of relevant listings is small. A buyer should expect fewer options and must be precise about the sub-branch to find viable suppliers.
