Question 1

How does the copper content test for electric motor scrap differ from general metal recycling standards?

Accepted Answer

Electric motor scrap requires a specific copper content test that measures the ratio of copper windings to iron core. This is distinct from general metal recycling which often accepts mixed scrap without separation. Buyers must ask for the specific percentage of pure copper recovered after stripping. This test determines the actual value of the lot and separates high-grade motor scrap from lower-value mixed metal waste. Do not accept a generic metal grade without this specific breakdown.

Question 2

What density check is required for expanded polystyrene block scrap before shipment?

Accepted Answer

Expanded polystyrene block scrap demands a density check that measures the mass per cubic meter of the compressed material. This is critical because the shipping cost is driven by volume, not weight. Sellers must provide the exact density figure to calculate the landed cost accurately. A lower density means more volume per tonne, which increases freight charges significantly. Verify this number in the listing details before sending an enquiry to ensure the freight quote is realistic.

Question 3

Which UN packaging codes apply to bulk chemical reagents exported from Denmark?

Accepted Answer

Bulk chemical reagents require specific UN packaging codes that match the hazard classification of the substance. These codes dictate the type of drum, tank, or container that can be used for transport. Sellers must state the correct UN number on the listing to ensure compliance with maritime regulations. Using the wrong packaging code can lead to the shipment being held at the port. Confirm the UN code matches the chemical's safety data sheet before agreeing to purchase.

Question 4

How do you distinguish marine equipment from general industrial machinery in listings?

Accepted Answer

Marine equipment and machinery often include specialized components designed for saltwater environments and vessel mounting. General industrial machinery lacks these corrosion-resistant treatments and specific mounting interfaces. Look for details on material grade, such as bronze or stainless steel fittings, which are standard in marine applications. If the listing does not specify marine-grade materials, it likely belongs in the general Industrial Supplies branch. Check for certification marks specific to maritime classification societies.

Question 5

What documentation does a seller of rubber products need to provide for export?

Accepted Answer

Rubber products require a material safety data sheet that details the chemical composition and handling precautions. This document is essential for customs clearance and safe transport. Sellers must provide this sheet before shipment to ensure the goods are not classified as hazardous. The data sheet also indicates any restrictions on transport modes due to flammability or toxicity. Request this document early in the enquiry process to avoid delays at the destination port.

Question 6

How does the origin of electric motor scrap affect its copper purity rating?

Accepted Answer

The origin of electric motor scrap can influence the copper purity rating due to differences in local recycling practices. Some regions may mix aluminum windings with copper, lowering the overall purity. Buyers should ask for the source country and the specific alloy composition. This information helps determine the actual recovery value of the copper. A higher purity rating means less processing cost at the smelter, which should be reflected in the price.

Question 7

What packing difference separates expanded polystyrene scrap from general plastic packaging waste?

Accepted Answer

Expanded polystyrene scrap is often baled or compressed to reduce volume for shipping, whereas general plastic packaging waste may be loose or loosely compacted. The density of the bale is the key differentiator. Sellers must specify the bale weight and dimensions to allow for accurate freight calculation. Loose packaging waste is difficult to handle and may incur higher handling fees. Ensure the listing clearly states the form of the EPS scrap to avoid unexpected logistics costs.
