How do I calculate the true yield when glaze percentage is listed?

Glaze percentage represents the ice coating added to protect the seafood during freezing. To find the true yield, subtract the glaze weight from the total gross weight to get the net weight. Buyers should ask for both figures because the price often reflects the gross weight, meaning you pay for ice. A higher glaze percentage reduces the amount of actual product you receive per container.

What does count per kilogram tell me about size grade?

Count per kilogram indicates how many individual pieces of seafood fit into one kilogram. A lower count number means larger pieces, while a higher number means smaller pieces. This metric is the standard for size grading in this trade. Always verify the count specification in the listing details, as it directly impacts portioning and retail pricing for the end consumer.

Why must the competent-authority establishment number match the health certificate?

The competent-authority establishment number identifies the specific processing facility that handled the product. Customs authorities check that the health certificate originates from this exact registered number. If the numbers do not match, the shipment is rejected because the origin of the processing cannot be verified. This link ensures traceability and safety compliance for all imported seafood.

How does catch or production date affect quality claims?

The catch or production date establishes the starting point for shelf life and freshness. Frozen seafood quality degrades over time even at low temperatures. Buyers should request this date to compare it against the listing's freezing method. A recent date combined with proper freezing preserves texture and flavor much better than an older lot.

What proof is needed for cold-chain temperature records?

Cold-chain temperature records provide continuous data showing the product stayed within safe limits during transit. These records must cover the entire journey from the Chinese facility to the loading port. Buyers should require digital logs that show no temperature breaches. Gaps in the data suggest potential thawing and refreezing, which ruins quality and safety.

How does reefer plug availability impact landed cost?

Reefer plug availability determines if the container can maintain its temperature setting at the destination port. If plugs are scarce, shippers may pay for extra diesel generators or face delays. These logistics frictions add directly to the landed cost. Buyers in ports with limited infrastructure should budget for higher handling fees or choose destinations with better electrical capacity.

What distinguishes a Dried Shellfish listing from Fresh Fish Fillets?

Dried Shellfish listings require moisture content specifications and humidity control during storage. Fresh Fish Fillets demand strict temperature maintenance and rapid turnover. The packaging for dried goods focuses on moisture barriers, while fresh fillets need insulated boxes with gel packs. Buyers must check the storage condition requirements in each listing to ensure their warehouse can handle the specific product type.
