Question 1

How does the movement type change the grade of a digital watch?

Accepted Answer

The movement type determines the core functionality and durability of the watch. A quartz movement is standard for analog models, while digital watches may use electronic chips with varying battery lives. Buyers should check if the listing specifies the movement manufacturer or type, as this affects long-term reliability and repairability. Higher grades often include sapphire crystals or advanced water resistance ratings, which are distinct from basic plastic models.

Question 2

What material restrictions apply to leather watch straps from China?

Accepted Answer

Leather straps must comply with azo-dye restrictions and heavy metal limits in the destination market. Buyers need to verify that the seller provides test reports for the leather tanning process. Fibre content labelling is also required if the strap includes synthetic linings or stitching materials. These compliance documents are essential for customs clearance and must match the specific materials declared in the product description.

Question 3

Why do quotes for holiday watch collections expire so quickly?

Accepted Answer

Manufacturers allocate production capacity for major retail seasons months in advance. Once the booking window for holiday collections closes, prices rise due to limited capacity or shift to higher-cost expedited production. Buyers enquiring outside these key windows may receive standard pricing, which can be misleading if they intend to sell during peak seasons. Always confirm the production slot availability when requesting quotes for seasonal items.

Question 4

How does hanging display packaging affect the freight cost?

Accepted Answer

Hanging displays increase the carton cube significantly compared to flat packs, raising volumetric freight charges. Buyers must compare the shipping volume, not just the weight, to calculate accurate landed costs. Listings often omit packaging details, so enquirers should ask for specific carton dimensions. This information is critical for determining how many units fit in a container and the resulting per-unit shipping expense.

Question 5

What is the difference between a chronograph and a standard analog watch?

Accepted Answer

A chronograph includes additional sub-dials and buttons for measuring elapsed time, adding mechanical complexity. Standard analog watches have only hour, minute, and sometimes second hands without stop-start functionality. This structural difference affects the price and the movement type listed. Buyers should verify if the listing describes a chronograph function or a basic time-only display to avoid confusion.

Question 6

How does nickel release testing impact metal watch cases?

Accepted Answer

Nickel release testing ensures that metal cases and clasps do not exceed safety limits for skin contact. This is a critical compliance requirement in many destination markets, particularly in Europe. Buyers must request test reports for nickel release from sellers of metal watches. Without these reports, the shipment may be held at customs or rejected by retailers, causing significant delays and costs.

Question 7

What role does the tech pack play in grade classification?

Accepted Answer

The tech pack defines the exact specifications for materials, dimensions, and assembly methods. Buyers use it to compare listings objectively, as marketing titles often lack detail. A watch with a detailed tech pack indicating specific steel grades or fabric blends is typically higher grade. Always ask for the tech pack to verify that the physical product matches the listed specifications before placing orders.
