Question 1

How does the excise marking requirement for Alcoholic Beverages differ from the labeling rules for Processed Food?

Accepted Answer

Alcoholic Beverages require specific excise stamps or digital tracking codes mandated by the destination country's tax authority, which sellers must confirm before quoting. Processed Food typically relies on standard ingredient lists and allergen warnings without the same level of fiscal tracking. You must ask the seller if their packaging already bears the required fiscal marks or if you need to apply them locally, as this changes the unit cost significantly.

Question 2

What veterinary documentation distinguishes Livestock & Animal Products from general Processed Food shipments?

Accepted Answer

Livestock & Animal Products require a veterinary health declaration issued by the official authority in Bulgaria, certifying the animals were free from specific diseases at the time of slaughter. Processed Food does not carry this biological risk profile and thus lacks this specific declaration. You must verify that the seller can provide the original health certificate, as customs will hold the shipment without it.

Question 3

Why do Bar Products listings from Bulgaria often lack weight specifications in the title?

Accepted Answer

Bar Products are frequently sold in bulk wrappers or cases rather than individual units, so the title often omits net weight to avoid clutter. This ambiguity means a buyer cannot calculate the landed cost per unit without asking for the case count and individual bar weight. Always request the exact packaging configuration, as a quote for fifty kilograms could represent a vastly different number of sellable units depending on the bar size.

Question 4

What cold chain verification is critical for Seafood Supplies leaving Bulgaria?

Accepted Answer

Seafood Supplies must maintain a continuous temperature log from the processing facility to the port of departure to ensure freshness and safety compliance. Sellers must provide evidence that the goods were kept at the required freezing or chilling temperature throughout transit. Without this temperature data, the product quality is unverifiable, and the risk of spoilage at your destination increases significantly.

Question 5

How does the tobacco tax status affect quoting for Tobacco & Related Products?

Accepted Answer

Tobacco & Related Products are subject to strict excise duties that vary by destination, so sellers often quote ex-works prices to avoid miscalculating final taxes. You must clarify whether the price includes the excise duty or if you are responsible for paying it upon import. This distinction is crucial because the tax burden can double the landed cost if not accounted for in the initial quote.

Question 6

What ingredient disclosure is mandatory for Processed Food that differs from Bar Products?

Accepted Answer

Processed Food requires a detailed ingredient list including allergens, which must be clearly stated on the packaging and often in the listing description. Bar Products may group ingredients under generic terms like 'confectionery' without listing every component. You must ask for the full ingredient breakdown to ensure compliance with your local food safety regulations, as missing allergen info can lead to customs rejection.

Question 7

How does the packaging material for Livestock & Animal Products differ from general Processed Food?

Accepted Answer

Livestock & Animal Products often require specific packaging materials approved for biological safety, such as vacuum-sealed bags or breathable wrappings that prevent contamination. Processed Food may use standard plastic or cardboard without the same sanitary constraints. Verify that the packaging material meets your destination's import standards for biological goods, as non-compliant wrapping can result in immediate destruction of the shipment.
