Question 1

How does the INCI list determine the grade of a cosmetic formula?

Accepted Answer

The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) list provides the standardized chemical names for every component in a formula. Grade is determined by the purity of these ingredients and their specific concentration levels. A high-grade product will list active ingredients with precise percentages and pharmaceutical-grade sourcing details. Buyers must verify that the INCI names match the safety assessment exactly to avoid regulatory rejection at the destination border.

Question 2

What is the difference between a safety assessment and a certificate of analysis?

Accepted Answer

A certificate of analysis confirms the physical and chemical properties of a specific batch of raw materials or finished goods. A safety assessment is a comprehensive document evaluating the toxicological safety of the entire final formulation for consumer use. Exporting Cosmetics Products requires the safety assessment to prove compliance with destination regulations. The certificate of analysis supports the data, but the safety assessment is the legal requirement for market entry.

Question 3

Why do quotes for Lavender Oil expire based on chemical cycles?

Accepted Answer

Lavender Oil is a natural extract whose price fluctuates with agricultural yields and distillation costs. Unlike synthetic chemicals, natural oil prices are volatile and tied to harvest seasons and extraction efficiency. A quote expires when the supplier's current stock is allocated or when the next distillation batch pricing is announced. Buyers should request quotes that are valid for a specific batch to ensure the price reflects the actual goods being shipped.

Question 4

How does packaging weight affect the landed cost of jarred creams?

Accepted Answer

Jarred creams are heavy and often bulky, making the carton cube a primary driver of freight costs. The weight of the glass jar and the cream itself adds significant mass to each shipping container. Buyers must calculate the volumetric weight carefully, as air freight charges will increase disproportionately compared to sea freight. Switching to lighter plastic alternatives or optimizing jar size can substantially reduce the final landed cost per unit.

Question 5

What documentation proves the active ingredient concentration is accurate?

Accepted Answer

The Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is the primary document that verifies the concentration of active ingredients in a batch. It must include test results from an accredited laboratory, matching the INCI list specifications. Buyers should request the CoA before placing an order to ensure the product meets their formulation standards. Without this document, there is no proof that the active ingredients are present at the claimed levels.

Question 6

Which field on a listing row is critical for verifying the INCI list?

Accepted Answer

The product description or specification sheet should contain the full INCI list for every ingredient. Buyers must compare this list against their own formulation requirements and destination regulatory restrictions. A missing INCI list is a red flag that indicates poor documentation practices. Always request the complete ingredient declaration to ensure transparency and compliance with safety regulations before initiating any trade.

Question 7

What happens if the safety assessment for a reducing gel is not available before shipping?

Accepted Answer

If the safety assessment is not available before shipping, the goods will likely be held at the destination port for inspection or rejected entirely. Cosmetics Products require a pre-market safety assessment to be submitted to the responsible person in the target country. Shipping without this document violates cosmetic regulations and incurs storage fees or destruction costs. Ensure the supplier provides this document prior to payment and dispatch.
