Question 1

How does the distinction between ABS regrind and ABS batteries regrind change the inspection required?

Accepted Answer

ABS batteries regrind contains residual electronic components and potentially hazardous materials that trigger stricter hazardous waste regulations compared to pure ABS plastic regrind. Buyers must verify if the lot includes separated battery casings or if the material is mixed with lead-acid residues. Inspection protocols differ significantly because electronic scrap requires testing for heavy metals and proper disposal documentation, whereas pure plastic regrind focuses on polymer purity and melt flow index.

Question 2

What specification separates PET bottle scrap from general plastic waste in Bahrain listings?

Accepted Answer

PET bottle scrap is defined by its specific resin type and the removal of non-PET labels, adhesives, and caps. Listings that fail to specify the wash status or the presence of PVC contamination are often misclassified. Buyers need to confirm the density of the flakes and the absence of non-PET polymers, as even small amounts of PVC can ruin the recycling batch during reprocessing.

Question 3

Why is the grade of steel shaft rolls scrap critical for melting efficiency?

Accepted Answer

Steel shaft rolls scrap varies widely in alloy composition, carbon content, and surface coating. Foundries require specific chemical compositions to maintain the integrity of the final cast product. Buyers must check the listing for the steel grade designation and any surface treatments like chrome plating, which can introduce unwanted elements into the melt and degrade the quality of the recycled steel.

Question 4

How does the packaging of HDPE drum scrap affect its market value?

Accepted Answer

HDPE drum scrap is often sold as baled flakes or loose chips, with baled material commanding a premium due to easier handling. The density of the bale and the presence of contaminants like oil or food residue directly impact the price. Buyers should inquire about the compaction ratio of the bales and whether the material has been washed, as unwashed scrap requires additional cleaning costs at the destination.

Question 5

What documentation proves the origin of scrap metal from Bahrain?

Accepted Answer

Export declarations and certificates of origin are required to prove the scrap metal originated in Bahrain and was not mixed with waste from other jurisdictions. Customs authorities at the destination port may request proof that the material was processed locally before export. Buyers should ensure the seller provides the full chain of custody documents to avoid delays or rejections at the border.

Question 6

What risk does mixed plastic scrap pose to recycling facilities?

Accepted Answer

Mixed plastic scrap containing multiple polymer types can contaminate entire recycling streams, rendering the output unusable for high-grade applications. Facilities require sorted streams to maintain the quality of recycled pellets. Buyers must verify that the listing specifies a single polymer type and provides data on the separation efficiency used by the seller to prevent cross-contamination.
