Question 1

How do I distinguish between ABS plastic scrap and HDPE drum scrap in the Plastic Products branch?

Accepted Answer

ABS plastic scrap typically requires verification of its melt flow index and heat deflection temperature to ensure it can be reprocessed into rigid components. HDPE drum scrap, often sourced as blue regrind or bales, is evaluated based on its density, contamination levels, and whether it has been washed. The processing equipment needed for each polymer type differs significantly, making these specific physical properties the primary differentiators in the market.

Question 2

What specific data separates OCC paper scrap from general paper products in Bahrain?

Accepted Answer

OCC paper scrap is defined by its fiber length, moisture content, and the percentage of non-paper contaminants like plastic or metal staples. General paper products are graded by brightness, opacity, and weight. Buyers must ask for the exact moisture percentage and contamination limits for OCC, as these factors directly impact the pulping efficiency and final paper quality, whereas general paper listings focus on aesthetic and functional print qualities.

Question 3

Why is a quote for medical items from Bahrain incomparable without sterility details?

Accepted Answer

Medical & HealthCare items often require proof of sterilization, such as ethylene oxide or gamma irradiation, and compliance with specific international standards. A listing that lacks these details cannot be compared to one that includes them, as the regulatory burden and handling costs differ vastly. Buyers must confirm the sterilization method and the relevant certification bodies recognized in their destination market before requesting a price.

Question 4

What packing difference exists for PET bottle scrap versus LDPE roll scrap?

Accepted Answer

PET bottle scrap is typically baled into dense blocks to maximize container space and minimize handling, requiring specific bale weight and dimensions for transport. LDPE roll scrap, often sold as film or regrind, may be packed in smaller bags or loose bales depending on the contamination level and intended recycling process. The packing method affects the landed cost and the ease of unloading at the destination port, so buyers must specify their preferred packaging format.

Question 5

How do I determine if an automobile part listing meets my vehicle model?

Accepted Answer

Automobile & Auto Accessories listings must specify the exact vehicle make, model, year, and engine type to ensure compatibility. Generic terms like 'universal fit' are rare and often misleading; buyers should look for OEM part numbers or specific fitment charts. Without these precise identifiers, the risk of receiving incompatible parts is high, leading to significant logistical delays and returns.

Question 6

What fails after shipping if the moisture content is not settled for paper scrap?

Accepted Answer

If the moisture content in paper scrap like OCC is not agreed upon and verified before shipping, the cargo can suffer from mold growth, odor, or degradation during transit. High moisture also leads to disputes over net weight, as buyers pay for water that evaporates or adds no value. Settling the moisture limit in the contract prevents these physical and financial losses, ensuring the material remains usable upon arrival.

Question 7

What makes two ABS scrap listings on this page impossible to compare directly?

Accepted Answer

Two ABS scrap listings may differ in their regrind quality, color consistency, and presence of additives or fillers. One might be pure regrind suitable for injection molding, while another could be contaminated flakes requiring extensive washing. Without explicit details on the material's purity and processing history, the prices are not comparable, as the downstream processing costs vary significantly between the two grades.
