How does the chemical assay affect the payable weight for this product?

The chemical assay determines the exact elemental composition of the metal lot. Buyers pay for the net weight of the valuable element, not the gross weight. Impurities like ash or silica reduce the payable weight because they must be removed during processing. A higher purity level in the assay means a higher payable weight for the same gross tonnage.

What role does the mineral export licence play in shipments from Azerbaijan?

A mineral export licence authorizes the removal of specific mineral or metal resources from the country. Without this document, customs will not release the cargo. Importers should verify that the seller has obtained this licence before confirming the order. The licence ensures the transaction complies with national resource management regulations.

Why does a quote for Metal & Metal Products go stale so fast?

Prices for metals are tied to live exchange indices that change minute by minute. A quote is only valid for a very short window, often just days. If the market moves significantly while negotiations drag on, the original price becomes unworkable for the seller. Quick decision-making is necessary to lock in the quoted rate.

How do density and stowage factor influence the shipping method?

Density determines how much mass fits into a given volume. The stowage factor calculates the space required per ton of cargo. Heavy metals often hit the weight limit before the container is full, while lighter scrap might fill the volume first. This distinction dictates whether you use a container or break-bulk shipping.

What is the difference between a mill test certificate and a chemical assay?

A mill test certificate is the official document issued by the producer that certifies the product meets specific mechanical and chemical standards. The chemical assay is the laboratory analysis of the elemental composition. The certificate references the assay results to prove the alloy or standard designation matches the listing.

What happens if the cargo fails radiation and scrap-contamination screening?

Destination authorities use radiation screening to ensure the metal is not contaminated with radioactive materials. Scrap-contamination screening checks for mixed hazardous waste or restricted electronic components. If the lot fails these checks, it may be rejected at the port. This can lead to costly demurrage fees or mandatory repatriation of the cargo.

How does the alloy or standard designation impact processing costs?

The alloy or standard designation defines the mechanical properties and elemental makeup of the metal. Different alloys require different processing temperatures and chemical treatments. A non-standard designation may require additional refining steps, increasing the buyer's processing costs. Always match the designation to your specific production requirements.
