The fermenter bioreactor is a pilot-scale unit with automatic steam sterilization and automatic temperature control. It has a total volume of 1000 litres and a working volume of 70%. Contact parts are SS 316L, non-contact parts SS 304, with 4 mm sheet thickness. The motor is 3 HP with a 1:10 gearbox ratio and 144 RPM output, speed controlled by VFD. Inbuilt SIP and CIP systems are included. Temperature is measured by a PT-100 sensor with PID control and digital display; design temperature is 125°C, maximum operating temperature 121°C. Design pressure is 4 kg/cm², maximum operating pressure 2.5 kg/cm², with an adjustable SS safety valve and SS dial-type pressure indicator filled with gel. Air inlet and outlet filters are 0.2 micron PP with five SS 316L filter housings. Air outlet passes through a shell-and-tube condenser. The sparger is a ring type at the bottom. A stuffing box sealing provides zero contamination and reduced air leakage. Four baffles (vessel diameter/10) and three adjustable six-blade Ruston turbine impellers are fitted. Side ports include temperature sensor and pH sensor ports (50 mm TC).
