The clay got its name from a knight as it was shipped in the name of Taylorite in the year 1888. In the previous years, its use and application was not known much to the people; though the production made was few tons a year. But with the progressing time, bentonite is applicable to many of the industries type and therefore its production has now jumped to some million tons a year. One may either find a sodium or calcium compound in bentonite that can be widely used by industries. Bentonite can be called as a clay in general as it actually a dirt but with wider applications in industries and useful to common people. On the contrary, calcium bentonite does not swell much therefore it can be consumed by people. It is this bentonite that people use for their intake which we call it as food grade.
